Team Leader/Supervisor

A team leader/supervisor is a management role, with operational and project responsibilities. They can also be responsible for managing a team to deliver an outcome. They ensure goals are achieved by providing direction, instructions and guidance. A team leader/supervisor can work in the private, public, or voluntary sector and in all sizes of organisation. Specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours will be the same whatever the role.

What are the key responsibilities of a team leader/supervisor?

Key responsibilities include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, delivering operational plans, and building relationships within and outside of the organisation.

Roles may include: Supervisor, Team Leader, Project Officer, Shift Supervisor, Foreperson, and Shift Manager.

On completion, apprentices may register as Associate members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management, to support their professional career development and progression.

Learners will spend 20% of their time on the course completing Off-The-Job training.

How will learners be assessed?

  • Assessment of knowledge through a test using scenarios, questions and responses.
  • Assessment of competency through competency based interview.
  • Assessment of portfolio of evidence.
  • Continuing Professional Development Log reviewed and professional discussion/question and answer session.

Learners typically require 5 GCSEs at grade C or higher. Apprentices without Level 2 Maths and English will need to achieve this level and take the test for Level 3 prior to the end point assessment.

Learners will receive Team Leader/Supervisor Level 3 certificate. Upon completion, apprentices can choose to register as associate members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management, to support their career development.

The apprenticeship will take a minimum of 12 months to 18 months to complete.
